Making Cakes

So yesterday was baking day at our house. These pictures were taken before 8 am on Thurday morning. It was a busy day and our house smelled wonderful. Andrew masterpiece took almost all day to bake. We then made the most wonderful buttercream frosting that I have ever tasted. Last Andrew put it together and decorated it for his Blue and Gold Banquet that night. Lilly and Abigail had super time baking in their own oven all by themsleves using the cooking kits that we got them for Christmas. We all had fun but now I need to do dishes!

Cabbage Anyone?

These are the Frankenstein monster cabbages that we pulled out of our garden yesterday. They are bigger than basketballs. I need some good recipes or we will be living of cabbage soup for the next month! Anyone out there a cabbage fan?

The Woes of Abigail

So I need to make a "just Abigail" post because I love her so much. She, although I hate to admit it, is a lot like me. I love her woes. I am not always quite sure what the particular woe happens to be at the time (am not sure Abigail know or remembers what it is/was) but it sure gets a show. My favorite part as witnessed by my friend Angela is when she forgets that she is supposed to be in morning. Then when she remembers, she goes at it with great enthusiasm and gusto, often throwing herself on the couch next to me or on the floor if I am in the kitchen. It always makes me smile and thank my mother and Ryan for putting up with me!

Who's Feet Do I See

So being the wonderful mother I am I started wondering where Foster was. I hadn't heard him in a while and that almost always means trouble. So I look outside, no Foster. I ask the kids "where's Foster", no Foster. I walk down the hall because I remember that I have a load a laundry soaking in the washer (that is a whole other story for another day) and see feet. I am in favor of more organic nap times and places, sometimes to my demise but anyway here I find him. He dropped right in the middle of playing with his sisters dolls.

Tagged?

My First Born
So from what I understand, if I am tagged, I have to answer these questions... I am still new to all of this.
Here it goes:
1. WAS YOUR FIRST PREGNANCY PLANNED?
Yes and no

2. WERE YOU MARRIED AT THE TIME?
Yes thank goodness...I couldn't have done it without him!

3. WHAT WERE YOUR REACTIONS?
Unbelief and overwhelmed

4. I deleted #4 !

5. HOW OLD WERE YOU?
18 years young, 19 when he was born

6. HOW DID YOU FIND OUT YOU WERE PREGNANT?
My sister April told me I was at a ward Christmas party. Afterwards I got home and took a test, that turned out to be positive. I can't hide anything from April.

7. WHO DID YOU TELL FIRST?
I can't really remember. I think our parents?

8. DID YOU WANT TO FIND OUT THE SEX?
yes, I am not one for surprises

10. DID YOU HAVE MORNING SICKNESS?
YES!!! I remember working and going to school where I could handle it and then the moment I got in the car I would need to be home fast. Ryan, if he was with me, would run up two flights of stairs to open our apartment door so I could run directly to the bathroom. Weird, I know.

11. WHAT DID YOU CRAVE?
Doritos. They were not the best choice but they tasted so good. Later when I was running pushing a stroller around trying to work off those extra pounds I regretted every little chip I ate and vowed never to do that again.

12. WHO/WHAT IRRITATED YOU THE MOST?
A nurse in the hospital had very bad breath. Ryan had to stay on his side of the bed. We had a delicate balance on a queen size water bed at the time. If he moved I rolled into him or rolled off the bed! (we don't have that bed any more!)

13. WHAT WAS YOUR FIRST CHILD'S SEX?
little boy blue

14. DID YOU WISH YOU HAD THE OPPOSITE SEX OF WHAT YOU WERE GETTING?
I didn't care either way but was nervous because I had 7 sisters and not much experience with boys.

15. HOW MANY POUNDS DID YOU GAIN THROUGHOUT THE PREGNANCY?
I can't exactly remember... I have put that out of my mind but I know that it was at least 75. I had swelling problems so most of that was water but it still didn't look very good on me.

16. DID YOU HAVE A BABY SHOWER?
Yes two. One given by childhood friends and family and the other by my ward.

17. WAS IT A SURPRISE OR DID YOU KNOW?
The first one was a surprise, the second came after Andrew was born so I knew about it.

18. DID YOU HAVE ANY COMPLICATIONS DURING YOUR PREGNANCY?
You name it and it happened to me. I did have lots of swelling that got very close to pre-eclampsia, which lead to an induction, which lead to more complications, which lead to a c-section. My epidural didn't work on my right side so instead of taking it out and reinserting it again they just keep giving me more doses. During the surgery I could feel what they were doing and so they gave me laughing gas (they had told me that if they had to put me out for the c-section Ryan and my mom couldn't be with me so I opted to go ahead anyway). I was told the next day that I would make a very entertaining drunk person, but I don't intend to find out. It all turned out alright but now I know a better way.

19. Where did you Deliver?
TMC in Tucson

20. HOW MANY HOURS WERE YOU IN LABOR?
13 hours

21. WHO DROVE YOU TO THE HOSPITAL?
Ryan

22. WHO WATCHED YOU GIVE BIRTH?
my mom and Ryan were the only ones allowed in the surgery but all of Ryan's family was there.

23. WAS IT NATURAL OR C-SECTION?
c-section

24. DID YOU TAKE MEDICINE TO EASE THE PAIN?
for the first 5 hours I did OK with the pitocin but it came to a point when I was having contractions that lasted for 5 minutes without relaxing so I asked for help.

25. HOW MUCH DID YOUR CHILD WEIGH?
He was over 8 lbs. I can't remember the exact weight.

28. WHEN WAS YOUR CHILD ACTUALLY BORN ?
8:45pm July 23,1999

30. WHAT DID YOU NAME HIM/HER?
Andrew Ryan Nelson

31. HOW OLD IS YOUR FIRST BORN TODAY?
9 year old

Wow!

Everything Disney

OK so I have Disney fever! I don't know why this happens but about every three months I want to drop everything, pack everyone up, spend large amounts of money and drive to Disneyland to wear myself out. Everything around me reminds me of Disney land. Even the Wii games, I stop and say that sounds just like so and so ride. It's gotten to the point where my children just roll there eyes at me and say "Oh Mom". We will hopefully go this year but the time is not definite yet. So I guess I should find a Disney land support group to help get me through my addiction fit.

Pine Wood Derby 09

So we forgot the camera AGAIN!!! Ryan filled in with pictures from his phone so sorry they are a little blurry. Andrew's car just barely made it to the race on time. (It was being assembled up until the last minute!) He did well with his silver car clocking in at a whopping 228 miles per hour. He took second place in his Bear Den and second place overall. (His friend Andrew Ingram, who is the last of 4 boys in his family, won the Bear Den and overall) The competition was stiff, but everyone had a great time and it was over before we knew it?!
